How it generally works

The Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act, 2013 requires employers with ten or more employees to constitute an Internal Committee. Complaints in other cases go to a Local Committee set up by the district.

A complaint should ordinarily be made within three months of the incident, extendable by a further three months. The committee conducts an inquiry and recommends action.

Findings can be appealed, and serious conduct may also amount to a criminal offence.
