How it generally works

Industrial relations are now governed by the Industrial Relations Code, which continues the system of conciliation followed by adjudication by industrial tribunals.

Workmen generally approach the conciliation officer first. If conciliation fails, the dispute can proceed to the tribunal.

Awards of the tribunal are binding and enforceable, and can be challenged in the High Court through writ proceedings.
