How it generally works

Several laws provide their own route to compensation — for example, the Employees' Compensation Act, 1923 for workplace accidents, and the Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement Act, 2013 for land acquisition.

Victims of crime may also receive compensation under state victim compensation schemes administered by legal services authorities.
